How we started

Project Women Empowerment was Help for Women’s first project and mission. It began in 2012 when our founder, Sandra Koomen, launched the NGO.

Through small fundraising campaigns and her own personal funds, Mrs. Koomen began investing in young women by giving them access to vocational training, starting with hairdressing.

Where we’re going

With Project Women Empowerment, our goal is to build a vocational school that will welcome 300 women each year, equipping them with the tools and skills they need to become self-sufficient.

Women Empowerment 2024

Where we are now

In January 2025, we launched a new initiative where women sell kenkey, a traditional Ghanaian delicacy, on commission. This way they have no startup costs, and it’s easy to begin with small batches. We plan to expand this initiative throughout Gomoa Fetteh over the course of the year.

We also host an annual Women Empowerment Conference, inviting women from Accra and Kasoa to be inspired, learn from experts in various fields, and hear powerful stories from local women who started with nothing.

Our desire is to organize more of these conferences, but also to create a space where women can come together and learn a trade or skill , even without it being an official vocational school.

That’s why we’ve included a multipurpose building in our plans: a place for gathering, learning, and inspiration.

Partner with us to empower women in Gomoa Fetteh to become self-sufficient and build a life of dignity and opportunity.
